Branching Dialogue

Created for Project Vigor (Nova Rift Interactive)

This text was originally written in Inky (see screenshot) and then converted into standard screenwriting format. I wrote the dialogue lines between the PC and the first Companion they meet. Depending on the dialogue choices, the player can increase the connection level with the NPC.

Character Study

Character study showing the personality of the character

Created for the Video Game Writing course with Lorne Nudel (at ELVTR)

After creating the concept of a story, this is my character study for Elector Fülsin, who debates the protagonist of the story in the dialogue scene I created.

Dialogue

Created for the Video Game Writing course with Lorne Nudel (at ELVTR)

The course was focused on completing various assignments, all leading to the production of valuable portfolio samples. The final task, presented here, was to create a dialogue scene in screenwriting format.

  • Task:

Create the narrative and relationship system, review characters and worldbuilding/lore.

  • Requirements:
Build on the pre-existing characters and story, support the developer for the dialogue implementation.

  • My solution:
I re-wrote the dialogue lines between Protagonist and first NPC, adding a unique tone and deeper personality to the latter.
Then I converted the dialogue lines into script with Ink, including the choices and consequences.

The highlight of my work was giving a positive and lively persona in accordance with the values of the game, including inclusivity and accessibility.

  • Task:
Review the story and characters built so far, brainstorm the narrative system, help with the drafting of the pitch presentation for Press Start Game Founding Grant.

  • Requirements:
Utilize the established references and worldbuilding system

  • My solution:
I elaborated narrative strategies to develop and expose the story to the player, integrating them with the gameplay. I also wrote the narrative parts of the presentation, as well as proofreading/editing the other ones.

I focused on matching the depth and modernity of the theme and scope of the game with a dynamic narrative that involves the player in sharing the goal of the Protagonist and answering the question of what it really means to be a human being.

  • Task:
Collaborate with the Narrative Team, write the demo’s dialogue and trailer script, establish Protagonist’s personality.

  • Requirements:

Update and organize the documentation and GDD, coordinate with developers, audio team and voice actors for the implementation and recording of the voice lines.

  • My solution:
I took the initiative in scheduling team meetings, giving personality and tone to the first Boss, and setting up a method to characterize the Protagonist.
I also wrote the trailer script for the game.

My goal was to establish the appropriate atmosphere for the tone of the game and the importance of the Protagonist’s quest, against a world that did not believe in them.

Project 1

3D Farming Simulator Game

  • Task:
Create the story, narrative system, and trailer script.

  • Requirements:
Comply with the directions from the Product Manager and Lead Game Designer, and the engine capacity.

  • My solution:
I provided different variants for the story and player’s motivation to build a base and explore the world. I structured the narrative timeline with the base and character development and used the feedback from the stakeholders to adjust the storyline, as well as writing a captivating and impactful trailer script.

The objective I set for myself was to fill the world with a sense of wonder and curiosity for the player to grasp and guide them through their journey, and connecting it to the modern search and understanding of yourself with your surroundings.

Project 2

2D Idle Game

  • Task:
Create a pitch on the value of adding narrative to an established IP, along with valuable research and proposals.

  • Requirements:
Contact and organize meetings with relevant stakeholders (Leadership, Product Managers, Game Designers, etc.), to gather feedback and input.

  • My solution:
After organizing and attending the meetings, I used the feedback to create a narrative system that utilizes pre-existing game mechanics and tools to tell a story. This system is built on the recurring live events to establish connections between the characters and expand the lore throughout the following iterations.

The roster of characters is vast, and from their different personalities and dynamics I seized the chance to build a greater story through their interactions.

Project 3

2D Idle Game

  • Task:
Write the backstory of the characters of an established IP and dialogues between them in order to create a deeper lore. Provide feedback on the planned story and characters’ development.

  • Requirements:

Collaborate with the Product Manager to address the needs of the development team and align on the direction of the narrative system.

  • My solution:
I wrote a few samples of the backstory and dialogue between two pairs of characters and adjusted them according to the feedback I received. I also provided my input and suggestions regarding the team’s plan for the story and tone of the game.

Since this is an upbeat and humorous title, I matched the atmosphere with comedic and playful dialogues that provide more insight into the world and the dynamic between the characters within it.
